If your actuators are stuttering or your pneumatic ball valves aren’t sealing properly, the root cause is rarely the compressor itself. Here is a systematic guide to diagnosing pressure fluctuations in your pneumatic circuit and how to restore stable operation.
Inadequate Air Compressor Capacity (Sizing Issues)
The most overlooked culprit is the supply side. If your compressor cannot keep up with the total air consumption of your air cylinders pneumatic, the system pressure will drop drastically during peak operation.
Calculate the total CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) required. If your demand exceeds 85% of the compressor’s capacity, it’s time to upgrade the compressor or add a secondary storage tank to buffer the demand.
Condensation and Water Contamination

Design your manifold using the "ring main" system rather than dead-end lines to allow air to flow from two directions, ensuring balanced pressure across all workstations.
Environmental Temperature Changes
Did you know that for every 10°F (5.5°C) drop in ambient temperature, the air volume shrinks? Conversely, heat causes expansion. If your factory has no climate control, your pressure will fluctuate with the weather.
